Lesson 4 , Part 2 Present continuous tense
In the general grammar the present continuous tense is used when something is happening at the moment the speaker talks. It expresses something that is on-going, something that happens and doesn't stop yet, it means it continues. It's better to find the structure that can help you to build sentences into this tense.
FORMULA :
to be in present simple + (main verb + ing).
For that we have : subject + am / is / are + ( verb + ing) .
Let's give some examples with the verb " to eat " .
I am eat+ ing = I am eating. Use am / is / are according to the subject.
( I ..... am ) (he/ she / it / koffi / Mariam / the pen / a dog ...... is) (you / we / they / the children / the mice / the dogs / Ali's parents ..... are).
APPLICATION
Let's conjugate these verbs into present continuous tense.
To go home to sleep to watch TV
I am going home I am sleeping I am watching TV
You are going home You are sleeping You are watching TV
He/ She/It is going home He/She/It is sleeping He/She/It is watching TV
We are going home We are sleeping We are watching TV
You are going home. You are sleeping. You are watching TV
They are going home. They are sleeping They are watching TV.
NB : do not use the present continuous with the modals ( can, may ...) no...no... and no.
