[ ? ]…….. Question mark, [ !] ............. Exclamation mark, [ . ]……… Period or full stop.
We put the question mark at the end of a direct question. EX: where is the car?
We do not use the question mark at the end of an indirect question. EX: He asked if I was leaving.
We use the exclamation point at the end of a sentence expressing surprise, joy, anger, shock or another strong emotion. EX: that’s marvelous! Never! She cried. In informal written English, you can use more than one exclamation mark, or an exclamation mark and a question mark. EX: ‘’ your wife’s just given birth to triplets’’ ‘triplets!?’
We put the period or the full stop at the end of a sentence that is not a question or an exclamation. This allows the sentence to be a statement.
EX: We talked about African independent heros.
